Product Care & Help Guide
Proper detangling, washing, and storage help preserve the softness, cap structure, and natural movement of your wigs and hairpieces. This guide from Richmond GB Hair provides general care and maintenance advice across our five product categories. Please always refer to the specific instructions supplied with your individual item.
1. Lace Front Wigs: Lace Handling & Hairline Care
- Initial Try-On Tip: Before trimming the excess front lace or removing factory tags, gently try the wig on over a clean wig liner cap indoors to confirm that the shade, cap fit and density meet your expectations. Once the lace is cut, the item is considered altered.
- Gentle Lace Handling: Sheer lace material is delicate. Avoid pulling or scratching at the lace hairline with sharp fingernails or fine-toothed combs, and hold the sturdy ear tabs when adjusting the cap position on your head.
- Removing Adhesive Residue: If you use wig tape or water-soluble adhesive along the hairline, remove residue gently using a dedicated lace cleanser or lukewarm soapy water on a soft cloth rather than scrubbing the lace mesh aggressively.
2. 100% Human Hair Wigs: Washing, Conditioning & Heat Styling
- Detangling Before Washing: Always detangle dry hair gently from the ends upward toward the roots using a wide-tooth comb or loop wig brush before wetting the hair.
- Cleansing & Moisture Care: Wash in lukewarm water using a mild, sulphate-free shampoo, stroking downward in the direction of the hair cuticles without rubbing or twisting the strands. Apply hydrating conditioner from mid-lengths to ends, keeping heavy conditioner away from hand-tied knots at the cap base.
- Drying & Heat Styling: Blot excess water with a towel and allow the wig to air-dry on a wig stand. When using heated styling tools on human hair wigs, apply a thermal protectant spray and use moderate heat settings in accordance with the product instructions.
3. Synthetic Everyday Wigs & Bob Styles: Fibre Preservation
- Cool Water Washing: Wash synthetic wigs in cool water with a gentle cleanser formulated for synthetic fibres. Never use hot water, as high temperatures can relax or distort pre-set synthetic wave patterns.
- Drying & Brushing: Gently pat dry with a towel and place on a breathable wig stand to air-dry completely. Do not brush wet synthetic fibres, as tension while wet can stretch or frizz the strands.
- Heat Safety Warning: Standard synthetic fibres must be kept away from hairdryers, curling irons, straighteners, and sudden bursts of heat (such as opening a hot kitchen oven door). Only synthetic wigs explicitly labelled as heat-resistant on their product page may be styled with low-temperature tools within the stated temperature limit.
4. Hair Toppers & Ponytails: Clip Care & Storage
- Securing Pressure Clips: When attaching a hair topper, open all snap clips before positioning the base over your parting, then press the outer frame of each clip shut against stable sections of hair without tugging excessively on fine root areas.
- Tangle-Free Storage: When not in use, store wigs on a mannequin head or collapsible wig stand away from direct sunlight and dust, or lay hair toppers and ponytails flat inside their original protective hair net and box.
5. Product-Specific Instructions
The guidance on this page is general care and maintenance advice. Hair fibre composition, heat tolerance, cap construction, clip layouts and care requirements vary by model. Always follow the instructions and specifications provided on the relevant product page and with your item. Do not apply heat or chemical treatments (such as hair dye or bleach) in a way that is inconsistent with the stated fibre specifications.
